Myrtle Beach snaps homerless streak (Rob Gurganus)

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans got their first homer of the year and Ryan Glynn got a win for Richmond in Wednesday's Braves Minor League Action. Click on for the scores and recaps.
Richmond returns home to win 2-1 over Charlotte

Ryan Glynn
picked up his first win as a Richmond Brave with a strong five inning performance leading Richmond over Charlotte 2-1 Wednesday night.
Glynn (1-2) pitched five innings, allowed one run on four hits. He walked two and struck out four. Glynn did not allow a hit until two outs in the fourth inning.
Buddy Hernandez
got the final two outs in the ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season.
Stubby Clapp
had a sacrifice fly for Richmond in the first inning. Then with the game tied at one in the fifth inning, Richmond scored on a passed ball by the Charlotte catcher.
Richmond (9-11) will host Charlotte in Game two of the series Thursday night at 7:00.
Greenville blown out by Carolina 20-4
The Greenville Braves were skunked by the Carolina Mudcats 20-4 Wednesday night at Greenville Municipal Stadium.
In his first rough outing of the season, Greenville starter Bubba Nelson (2-1) gave up eight runs (five earned) in two and two thirds innings pitched. Nelson’s control was a problem as he walked five batters. The final blow for Nelson was a home run by Chris Aguila in the third inning. Aguila would hit another home run later in the game for the Mudcats.
Richard Lewis
was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI for the G-Braves, but he also committed two errors.
Greenville infielder
Keoni DeRenne
came into pitch in the ninth inning. He gave up two runs on the home run by Aguila.
These two teams meet again Thursday with Brett Evert (1-2) going for Greenville.
Myrtle Beach wins on a home run by Charles Thomas
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, homerless in the first seventeen games of the 2003 season, got a walk off home run from Charles Thomas to defeat Lynchburg 3-2 Wednesday afternoon.
Zach Miner
had another strong performance for Myrtle Beach, pitching six innings allowing only one run on four hits.
Paul Bush
(1-2) picked up the win in relief. Bush went three innings allowing only a home run off the bat of Shelton for Lynchburg.
Rome Braves win fourth in a row with a 6-2 win over Lakewood
The Rome Braves defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 6-2 Wednesday night behind more solid starting pitching.
Dan Meyer
(2-0) pitched five scoreless innings, allowed only four hits, no walks, and eight strikeouts in leading Rome to their fourth win in a row.
Brian McCann
(2) and
Yaron Peters
(2) homered for Rome to lead the offense.
Jonathan Schuerholz
added an RBI (3).
Rome has now had four straight games in which its starting pitcher has not given up an earned run. Going back to Saturday’s game against Capital City, Rome starters have pitched 20 scoreless innings.
Sung Jung picked up his first save of the season getting the final two outs in the ninth inning.
Rome (12-7) will wrap up its series in Lakewood Thursday with
Jose Capellan
(0-2) going for his first victory of the season.
