Randall Delgado on a roll in Double-A

If Randall Delgado were in another organization, he might be thought of even more than he is now. But the Braves are well aware of how good a prospect Delgado has become over the past few seasons.

He doesn't get the publicity that Julio Teheran and Mike Minor get, but do not underestimate the talent and potential of Mississippi right-hander Randall Delgado.

The 21-year-old continues to dominate the Southern League. Saturday against Jacksonville, Delgado pitched six shutout innings. He allowed five hits, walked two and struck out four.

Delgado is now 4-1 on the season with a 2.38 ERA in eight starts. He's allowed 38 hits in 45.1 innings, 12 earned runs, 17 walks and 45 strikeouts. His opponents are hitting .226 against Delgado this season.

In his last three starts, Delgado has allowed only four earned runs in 20 innings. With Brandon Beachy getting hurt on Saturday in Atlanta, the Braves may turn again to Teheran for a big league start. It'll be interesting to see if Delgado eventually gets the promotion to Triple-A. He had eight starts last year in Double-A, so that's now 16 total starts in the Southern League.

Delgado is often overshadowed by Teheran, but scouts have always believed the two pitchers have similar potential. Delgado may have a better breaking ball than Teheran, and his changeup is very good.
