Eric Hinske is once again doing well in the month of May. Hinske is hitting .405 in 37 at bats this month, as he has gotten time in the outfield with Jason Heyward sitting out with his ailing shoulder.
Hinske has three home runs and eight runs batted in this month, with a .410 on base percentage. Hinske is now hitting .349 on the season, with four home runs and 12 RBI in 63 at bats.
Last May Hinske got significant playing time in left field and also had a productive month. He hit .339 with four home runs and 14 RBI in 64 plate appearances.
If Chipper Jones continues to have trouble with his right knee, the Braves will probably continue to move Martin Prado to third base and then have Hinske in left field. The only drawback? Hinske is a left-handed hitter, and Atlanta’s lineup is already flooded with hitters from the left side of the plate.
But Hinske is a leader on this team, and it always helps to have a player like this do well when he gets a chance to have significant playing time. Hinske’s success is a big reason the Braves are 12-4 in the month of May.
