RICHMOND BEATS NORFOLK IN TWELVE INNINGS
The Richmond Braves defeated the Norfolk Tides 3-1 in twelve innings Monday night on a pinch hit sacrifice fly by
Ramon Castro
.
Castro was pinch hitting for Travis Phelps, who got the victory by pitching two scoreless innings.
Ryan Glynn
started for Richmond and went five innings, allowed one run on five hits. Glynn walked three and struck out three.
Billy Sylvester
and
Jamie Emiliano
also pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Joe Dawley
picked up his third save of the season with a scoreless twelfth inning.
Richmond got two other runs on RBI from
Jesse Garcia
and
Wilson Betemit
.
The Braves (12-12) have now won three in a row and are now three games behind Southern Division leading Charlotte and Norfolk. Game two of the series with Norfolk is tonight with
Andy Pratt
scheduled to pitch for Richmond.
ALDRIDGE LEADS G-BRAVES TO EXTRA INNING VICTORY
Greenville outfielder
Cory Aldridge
hit a two run home run in the tenth inning to lead the Braves to a 4-2 victory over the Huntsville Stars. Aldridge was 4 for 5 on the night to raise his average to .268 on the season.
G-Braves starter Bubba Nelson rebounded from a rough outing last week to pitch a solid game. Nelson went six innings, allowed two unearned runs, walked one, and struck out five. Nelson's ERA is now 2.56.
The Braves were down 2-1 going into the top of the ninth inning, but
Pete Orr
got a single to tie the game at 2.
Lee Evans
got the first RBI for Greenville on a sacrifice fly.
Greenville is now 12-11 on the season. They close out their series with Huntsville Tuesday afternoon with Brett Evert (1-2) on the mound.
MYRTLE BEACH LOSES TO LYNCHBURG
Matt Wright
had another rough outing for Myrtle Beach as the Pelicans lost 8-4 to Lynchburg on Monday night.
Wright surrendered seven runs on six hits over two innings to put the Pelicans in a hole. Wright is now 0-4 on the season and has an ERA of 8.24.
Andy Marte
had a run scoring double for Myrtle Beach.
Greg Miller
, TJ Pena, and Isaac Iorg also had RBI singles.
The Pelicans play game two against Lynchburg tonight with Zach Miner (2-0) scheduled to start for Myrtle Beach.
ROME LOSES SECOND IN A ROW TO DELMARVA
Delmarva scored three runs off reliever Jose Rodriquez to beat the Rome Braves 3-1 on Monday night.
Dan Meyer
started for Rome and pitched well again. Meyer went four scoreless innings, allowed only one hit, walked one, and struck out six. Meyer's ERA is now 1.88 on the season.
The Shorebirds scored one in the fifth and two in the seventh off Rodriquez, who fell to 0-1 with the loss.
Rome finished their northern road trip 6-2 and return home to start a three game series with Augusta on Wednesday at State Mutual Stadium.
Jose Capellan
(0-2) is scheduled to start for Rome.
