The Braves have made an international signing. Bill Shanks has more.

Saturday is when teams can start signing international players, and the Braves have joined in with another Panamanian.

Outfielder Iosif Bernal was signed for $175,000. He is a right-handed hitter and turns 17 years old in October.

Bernal is 6-3, 200 pounds. He can play either corner outfield position. The Braves believe he will have middle-of-the-order power potential.

Bernal is from Panama City. The Braves have had success in Panama the last few years, with Randall Delgado, Christian Bethancourt and Dimaster Delgado, three good prospects in the Atlanta farm system.

Bill Shanks hosts The Bill Shanks Show on WPLA Fox Sports 1670 in Macon, GA and WCOH Fox Sports 1400 in Newnan, GA. Shanks is a columnist for The Macon Telegraph. Email Bill at and follow him on Twitter at
