Players who were almost Braves

Players who were almost Braves

The Braves didn't make many moves over the offseason, but they were still mentioned in trade rumors. Let's see how some of those players mentioned have done so far this season.

The Braves were in talks with the Rockies about Martin Prado and Jair Jurrjens over the offseason. Several prosects were mentioned for Colorado.

Tim Wheeler is a big left-handed hitter who had 33 home runs for AA Tulsa last season. So far this season, Wheeler has been hurt. He's played in only eight games and is 5-25 with no home run and four RBI.

Charlie Blackmon was also mentioned. He hit .337 last season for AAA Colorado Springs. Blackmon returned there this season and is hitting .203 this year in only 17 games.

Many Braves fans hoped Atlanta could pry Nolan Arenado away from Colorado, but he's the Rockies' top prospect. Arenado is hitting .304 for AA Tulsa this season, with three home runs and 25 RBI in 178 plate appearances. He's also got a .354 on base percentage. He's likely the future third baseman in Colorado.

Outfielder Seth Smith was the major leaguer mentioned in those rumors. He was later traded to Oakland and is hitting .239 in 39 games so far this season. Smith has three home runs and 11 RBI in 109 at bats.

It might have been good to send Jurrjens to Colorado, just to get something in return. But the Braves should be thankful they held onto Prado, especially considering what the players mentioned in the rumors have done this season.
