Cardinals invite 16 NRIs to big-league camp

The St. Louis Cardinals have invited 16 non-roster players to their 2013 major league spring training camp.

The St. Louis Cardinals have invited 16 non-roster players to their 2013 major league spring training camp. The group includes top prospects Carlos Martinez, Michael Wacha and Kolten Wong as well as the organization's 2012 Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, Oscar Taveras and Seth Maness.

The invitations to former major leaguers Rob Johnson, J.R. Towles and Justin Christian were previously announced when the players were signed earlier in the off-season.

PITCHERS (5): John Gast-LHP, Tyler Lyons-LHP, Seth Maness-RHP, Carlos Martinez-RHP, Michael Wacha-RHP

CATCHERS: (6): Adam Ehrlich, Rob Johnson, Jesus Montero, Audry Perez, Cody Stanley, J.R. Towles

INFIELDERS: (3): Greg Garcia, Starlin Rodriguez, Kolten Wong

OUTFIELDERS (2): Justin Christian, Oscar Taveras

Cardinals' pitchers and catchers report to Jupiter, Fla. on Monday, February 11 and hold their first workout on Tuesday, February 12. The Cardinals full squad reports on Thursday, February 14 and conducts its first workout on Friday, February 15, followed by their opening Grapefruit League contest on Saturday, February 23 against the Miami Marlins.

January 31 update: Reliever Barret Browning became the 17th NRI. After being outrighted, the left-hander cleared waivers and is assigned to Triple-A Memphis.
