Lookouts Lose Second End of Doubleheader
Chattanooga took a big hit early in the second game when their starting pitcher Onelki Garcia injured himself. Garcia pitched one and a half innings before he stepped down from the mound giving the ball over to Aaron Miller.
"The preliminary report is a groin strain," Manager Jody Reed said. "Then Aaron came in and pitched a heck of a ball game. Kept us in it. It's tough to walk two guys to start off an inning. Especially in a tight game like that, and it ended up costing us."
Chattanooga took the lead in the fourth inning when they caught up with the Generals at 3-3. With the bases loaded with J.T. Wise, Blake Smith, and C.J. Retherford. With a single from Omar Luna, both Wise and Smith are able to score.
Chattanooga started out toe to toe with the Generals but Joc Pedersons homerun in the fourth turned things around for the Lookouts for the time being putting them at a 4-3 advantage.
"That was big," Reed said. "It was big for him, it was a nice pick up for us, and it got us back where we wanted to be. Back in the game, and unfortunately we weren't able to hold the lead."
Retherford was batted in when Jan Vazquez singled a ground ball to left field.
Chattanooga wasn't able to hold off the Generals any longer and lost two runs to Jackson in the last two innings that ended up costing the Lookouts the game.
The Lookouts will enjoy another day off from baseball before they travel and take on the Birmingham Barons on their home field.
With the 5-4 loss against Jackson, the Chattanooga Lookouts fall to a 3-2 loss in the series and a record of 11-14 overall.
"We're so close to turning the corner, and really putting some wins together back to back and running a string together," Reed said. "We just need all the components of the game clicking, and it seems like we're just falling short from time to time, but you've got to keep battling. It's a long season. Keep battling and they'll come together it'll happen."
