Cardinals prospect interview: James Ramsey

Ramsey logged a .384 OBP in Arizona

The St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect reviews his first full professional season, which concluded with a stint in the Arizona Fall League.

Taken 23rd overall in the 2012 draft from Florida State, James Ramsey has been challenged by the St. Louis Cardinals at every step of the way. Right out of the gates, he was the only member of his draft class to start as high as A-Advanced Palm Beach.

By the time the 2013 regular season ended, the 23-year-old Georgia native passed his Double-A test and was given a brief introduction with Triple-A Memphis. Continuing into the fall, the left-handed hitter was not done, reporting to the St. Louis Cardinals instructional league camp to prepare, then heading west to the Arizona Fall League.

There, Ramsey was named to the AFL Fall Stars Game. Following a late batting slump (2-for-23 in November), Ramsey finished with a line of .246/.384/.435/.819 that was consistent with his regular season results. In 69 at-bats over 22 games, the outfielder walked 16 times, but also logged 20 strikeouts. A smart baserunner, Ramsey was 4-for-4 in stolen bases and was second on his club in runs scored with 18.

In this exclusive interview, Ramsey discusses his 2013, including his recent stint in the desert.
