Dykstra off to solid start in the GCL

Luke Dykstra

The Braves are getting good early returns on the 7th round pick from last month's draft.

Luke Dykstra hit his first professional home run Saturday as the GCL Braves beat the GCL Tigers 8-1.

Dykstra's two-run shot in the 4th inning was his 15th hit in 40 at bats. In his first 14 games in the Atlanta organization, Dykstra has four doubles, five runs batted in, three walks, three strikeouts and three stolen bases. His on base percentage is .435.

While it is obviously still early, it's a nice start for Atlanta's 7th round pick in last June's draft. Dykstra is the son of Lenny Dykstra, who played 12 years in the big leagues with the Mets and Phillies.

Dykstra has a brother, Cutter, who was a second round pick of the Brewers in 2008 and his now in the Nationals' organization.

The GCL Braves are now 8-12 on the season. First round pick Braxton Davidson was 1-2 in the game against the Tigers. His average is .237.
