Ross continues solid pitching in Double-A

One of the good stories of the 2014 season in Atlanta's minor league system belongs to Mississippi starter Greg Ross.

The Braves must be wondering exactly what they have in right-hander Greg Ross, who continues to do well in Double-A Mississippi.

Ross made his fourth start in the Southern League Friday night and pitched seven scoreless innings against Mobile. He walked four and struck out five to get his third win with Mississippi.

Ross has a 0.98 earned run average with the M-Braves. He's allowed only 15 hits in 27.2 innings, with three earned runs allowed, eight walks and 15 strikeouts.

Before his promotion in late-June, Ross had pitched in 15 games (11 starts) for Lynchburg. He was 5-3 with a 3.50 ERA. Ross had allowed 78 hits in 79.2 innings pitched, with 18 walks and 66 strikeouts.

In Ross' second start with Mississippi, he shut out the Huntsville Stars. Ross allowed six hits, walked two and struck out three in a rare (for any minor leaguer) nine-inning performance.

Last season, Ross pitched seven games for Rome and then 23 games (19 starts) for Lynchburg. Overall, Ross was 9-6 with a 3.27 ERA. He allowed 120 hits in 121 innings, with 36 walks and 91 strikeouts.

The Braves drafted the 6-3, 200-pound Ross out of Division-III Frostburg State University in the 18th round of the 2011 draft. Ross will turn 25 years old on September 6.
