Braves' prospects Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Scott Thorman have been selected to play in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in mid-November. BravesCenter's Bill Shanks has more.

USA Baseball has announced that Braves' prospect Jarrod Saltalamacchia will be on its roster for the first stage Olympic qualifying tournament, which will start November 15th in Phoenix.

Scott Thorman, a top Braves' prospect that played in Mississippi and Richmond last season, will play for Team Canada.

Six countries will have teams in the tournament: Team USA, Team Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Nicaragua. The top four teams will then qualify for the Olympic qualifying tourney for the Western Hemisphere next year in Cuba.

Saltalamacchia is currently playing in the Arizona Fall League and has put on another impressive show. He is hitting .322 with 1 home run, 7 RBI, and a .400 on base percentage. "Salty Dog" is coming off a fantastic season in Myrtle Beach, where he hit .314 with 19 home runs, 81 RBI, and a .394 on base percentage.

This will be the third time Saltalamacchia will represent his country. He was on the Youth National Team in 2000 that went to Mexico and won the gold medal, and then the next year on the Junior National Team that played in Canada and won a bronze medal.

Thorman has represented Canada before on the international stage as well, playing on the Canadian national baseball team that qualified for the Olympics in 2004.

The 23-year old Thorman hit .292 this past season with 21 home runs and 92 RBI in 558 at bats between Mississippi and Richmond.
