The Atlanta Braves home opener at Turner Field, on Monday, April 10th, at 7:05 PM, will feature special pre-game ceremonies, a Navy F-18 Hornets flyover, and a National Anthem performed by platinum-selling recording artist and Atlanta-native, Edwin McCain. During on-field ceremonies 200 local Little League baseball players will participate in the unveiling of several 80 foot banners representing the Braves five decades in Atlanta, while a special 40th anniversary tribute video plays on the BravesVision board.
Opening Night at Turner Field will also feature complete sideline introductions of both teams, and the first 20,000 fans will receive the first in a series of six 40th Anniversary Collectible Pins, presented by Home Depot. Fans should plan on being in their seats by 6:30 PM to witness all of the pre-game excitement.
In anticipation of a large crowd for Opening Night, alternative parking will be available at Lakewood Hi Fi Buys Amphitheater to help fans find convenient parking for the game and ease traffic flow. Parking at Lakewood will cost $5 and fans can take a free shuttle both to and from Turner Field. On April 12th, members of the 1966 Atlanta Braves team will reunite at Turner Field to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Braves first game played in Atlanta, when the club hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 12, 1966. Braves Hall of Fame member, Chairman Emeritus, and former owner, Bill Bartholomay, who was instrumental in bringing the Braves south from Milwaukee in 1966, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. To celebrate the anniversary, the Braves are offering throwback ticket prices, with Upper Reserved and Upper Pavilion seats available for just $2.
Reunited members of the Braves 1966 team, including manager Bobby Bragan, players Phil Niekro, Ron Reed, Rico Carty, Tony Cloninger, Felix Millan, Lee Bales, Frank Bolling, Ty Cline, Mike de la Hoz, Pat Jarvis, Ken Johnson, Denny Lemaster, Denis Menke, Gene Oliver, Jay Ritchie, Dan Schneider, Don Schwall, and Woody Woodward will be honored in pre-game ceremonies and will also participate in pre-game autograph and Q & A sessions in Fan Plaza.
Additionally, the 2006 Braves will don replica 1966 uniforms, which they will autograph and give away immediately following the game as part of the “Jerseys Off Our Backs” raffle, benefiting the Atlanta Braves Foundation. Raffle tickets will be available throughout the ballpark during the first four innings of the game.
Tickets will be available for pick up at the Turner Field will call windows beginning at 9 AM for all home games in 2006.
