The Atlanta Braves have hired six news scouts. The Braves Show's Bill Shanks has more.

The Atlanta Braves have hired six new scouts, including former Atlanta infielder Brian Hunter and three other former big leaguers.

Hunter was drafted by the Braves in the 8th round of the 1987 draft. He made his debut in 1991 with Atlanta and for the rest of that magical season split time at first base with Sid Bream. He had a long home run in Game Seven of the NLCS to give the Braves the lead.

Hunter played in three seasons for the Braves before being traded to Pittsburgh in November of 1993. Hunter also played for the Reds, Mariners, and Cardinals before rejoining the Braves for the 1999 season. He finished his career with the Phillies in 2000.

The Braves will have Hunter based out of Southern California. He's previously worked with the Mets and Nationals as a scout.

Also hired is Don Reynolds, a former outfielder with the Padres in the late-70s. He's the brother of former Mariners' second baseman Harold Reynolds. He'll scout in the Pacific Northwest Area and also have some professional scouting assignments. Reynolds was a Farm Director with the Expos several years ago

Paul Gibson has joined the Braves and will scout in the New York state area. Gibson pitched for parts of eight seasons in the big leagues with the Tigers, Mets, and Yankees. He was mainly a lefty specialist out of the bullpen in his career. Gibson pitched in 319 major league games. This will be his first scouting job.

Veteran scout Lloyd Merritt will come out of retirement to scout the minor leagues for the Braves. Merritt pitched one season in the big leagues, 44 games for St. Louis in 1957. He was a longtime minor league manager.

Also added to the scouting staff: Jerry Jordan, who will be one of the Braves' cross-checkers. Jordan is a former national cross-checker with the Indians. And Mike Spiers will scout in the Southern California area for the Braves.
