Minor League Preview - April 5

It's Opening Day in the minor leagues and Bill Shanks has a preview of the action in the Braves' farm system.

RICHMOND

Richmond was snowed out of their Opening Day game in Buffalo this afternoon. They'll play a double-header hopefully Friday starting at 4:00 pm. Buddy Carlyle will take on Indians' top prospect Adam Miller in the opener, while Kevin Barry will pitch for the Braves in the nightcap.


MISSISSIPPI

Mississippi is at one of the best stadiums in the minor leagues for the season opener, Joe W. Davis Stadium in Huntsville to take on the Stars tonight starting at 8:05 pm ET. Matt Harrison will get the ball for new Manager Phillip Wellman's Braves against fellow lefty Adam Pettyjohn. Wellman has already announced his starting lineup for tonight's game:

MYRLTE BEACH

It will be a special night at the renovated Coastal Federal Field in Myrtle Beach tonight as Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani will throw out the first pitch before the Pelicans take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks. James Parr will be the opening night pitcher for Myrtle Beach. Here's Manager Rocket Wheeler's Opening Night batting order:

ROME

It'll be a big night in Rome at State Mutual Stadium as the Braves take on the Augusta Greenjackets at 7:05. Right-hander Jeff Lyman will get the Opening Night assignment for Randy Ingle's club. The Rome Braves have won all four home openers in the history of the franchise. Tim Gustafson will follow Lyman in the rotation and start Friday, followed by Tommy Hanson on Saturday and Deunte Heath on Sunday afternoon.
