The Braves have made a few moves in the farm system. The Braves Show's Bill Shanks has more.
The Braves have promoted three members of the Rome Braves who were on the Sally League All-Star team.
Tommy Hanson
,
Deunte Heath
, and
Kris Medlen
have all been sent to join the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. And
Moises Hernandez
, who leads the Carolina League in wins with ten, is moving up to Double-A Mississippi.
Hanson has emerged as one of the Braves' top prospects. He was 2-6 in 15 games (14 starts) for Rome, with a 2.59 ERA. Hanson allowed only 51 hits in 73 innings, with 26 walks, and 90 strikeouts (third best in the South Atlantic League).
Heath leaves Rome with the third best ERA in the league (2.03). He pitched in 16 games (nine starts) and allowed 59 hits in 71 innings, with 19 walks, and 47 strikeouts.
And Medlen completely dominated the South Atlantic League. The right-hander pitched in 17 games and had an ERA of 0.87. He allowed only two earned runs on 13 hits in 20.2 innings, with three walks, 33 strikeouts, and eight saves. Medlen did not allow an earned run in the month of June.
The Braves sent three pitchers on the Pelicans' roster down to Rome: Chris Vines (0-3, 11.66 ERA in six games),
Sergio Valenzuela
(0-0, 6.88 ERA in 18 games), and
Jorge Acosta
(1-2, 6.27 ERA in 19 games).
Hernandez was 10-3 with Myrtle Beach with a 3.66 ERA. He allowed 94 hits in 91 innings, with 26 walks, and 51 strikeouts. Hernandez got one start with Mississippi in June as a fill-in. He allowed seven runs in 4.1 innings, with two walks, and two strikeouts.
Tyler Bullock
will replace Hernandez on the Pelicans' roster. Bullock was 1-0 with an ERA of 7.36 in nine games for Mississippi this season.
