Here is the preview of today's action around the Braves' minor league system.
RICHMOND
The Braves finish out the four-game set with Buffalo this afternoon at 1:00 pm with right-hander
Jorge Campillo
pitching at The Diamond. Right-hander
Sean Smith
will go for Buffalo. The Braves are hitting the ball pretty well, as their .290 team batting average is good enough for third in the International League. Richmond is 4-2 on the season.
MISSISSIPPI
James Parr
(0-0, 2.08) will be the next pitcher to try to lead Mississippi to its first win of the season as he takes on the Mobile BayBears tonight at Trustmark Park in Pearl. Mobile will send right-hander
Tony Barnette
to the hill to face a Braves’ offense that has scored only 12 runs in the first six games and is hitting .197 as a team, second worst in the Southern League.
MYRTLE BEACH
The Pelicans (3-3) will close out its season-opening road trip tonight in Potomac with a 7:05 start against the Nationals. Right-hander
Deunte Heath
(1-0, 1.80) gets his second start of the season. He’ll face Nationals’ right-hander
Jhonny Nunez
. Myrtle Beach returns home to have its home opener Friday night when the Frederick Keys come to Coastal Federal Field.
ROME
Rome closes out the series with Columbus tonight at State Mutual Stadium. The Braves are and have obviously been led by two of their top prospects.
Jason Heyward
is hitting .320 so far this season wit a home run and 4 RBI, while
Cody Johnson
now has his average up to .250 after a great day on Wednesday. Johnson leads the Sally League in home runs (3) and RBI (7) through the first week of the season.
