Royals take Edgar Osuna in the Rule V
Osuna was signed by the Braves in July of 2004 out of Mexico. He's a 6'1", 185-pound left-hander, who spent last season split between Myrtle Beach and Mississippi.
With the Pelicans, Osuna was 3-6, with a 4.33 ERA in 14 games started. He allowed 82 hits in 72.2 innings, 14 walks, and 56 strikeouts. Then Osuna was promoted to AA Mississippi, where he was 4-4 in 13 games (12 starts). Osuna allowed 74 hits in 77.1 innings, with 21 walks, and 49 strikeouts.
Overall last season, Osuna made 26 starts and one relief appearance. He was 7-10 with an ERA of 4.02. Osuna allowed 156 hits in 150 innings, with only 35 walks, and 105 strikeouts.
Osuna featured one of the best changeups in the Braves' organization. His fastball was usually below 90 mph, but his change was his best pitch.
Osuna just turned 22 in November. The Royals are in need of a left-handed pitcher, and they believe Osuna has a chance to be ready for the big leagues.
The Royals must keep Osuna on the 25-man roster all during the regular season. If they don't, Osuna must be offered back to the Braves for $25,000.
