Here's an interview with Braves first base prospect Freddie Freeman.
Wednesday's minor league report
Mississippi beat Mobile 5-4 Wednesday night with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Braves' pinch-hitter Randy Gress tied the game at four with a solo home run to lead off the inning. Then Eric Duncan doubled in Benji Johnson for the game winner. The Bay Bears roughed up Mississippi starter Scott Diamond for four runs in 4.1 innings, but the Braves' bullpen shut down Mobile over the next 4.2 frames. Stephen Marek won his second game of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. Marek, acquired from the Angels in the Mark Teixeira deal two years ago, is finally pitching well for the Braves. He has yet to give up a run in six games this season. The Braves play game four of the series with Mobile Thursday at 8:05 pm ET.
The Pelicans dropped their sixth in a row Wednesday, losing 11-4 to Winston-Salem at BB&T Coastal Field. The Dash scored four runs in the first inning and then four more in the second off Yeliar Castro, who joined the rotation Monday when Zeke Spruill went on the disabled list with a broken right hand. The Pelicans did get home runs from shortstop Amadeo Zazueta and catcher Jesus Sucre. The final game of the series with Winston-Salem will be Thursday night at 7:05 pm ET.
Rome rebounded from a tough 20-inning loss Tuesday to beat Kannapolis 3-1 Wednesday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium. Arodys Vizcaino, acquired from the Yankees in the Javier Vazquez trade last December, allowed only one run on six hits in seven innings to get the victory. Rome took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Osman Marval drove in Jordan Kreke. The Intimidators showed the effects of the long game from the night before with seven errors in the game. Paul Clemens got the save for Rome, who plays Kannapolis again Thursday night at 7:00 pm ET.
