The Braves selected RHP James Parr as their Fourth Round Pick (#131) and followed up with 3B Peter Pope (#161) in the Fifth Round and C Clint Sammons (#191) out of the University of Georgia as their Sixth Rounder.

HS Report: (2002)
A veteran shortstop, Pope developed into a superb right-handed pitcher last season as a junior.
Pope hit .468 with 13 doubles, 2 triples and 5 homers and led the Bulldogs to a 27-5 record and the 4A playoffs. In addition, he was 8-0 with a 1.88 ERA.
"Van is the best all-around player I've coached in my 26 years," Terry coach Jerry Gibson said. "He's been at shortstop since the ninth grade, but he's found himself as a pitcher.
"Van is a (former Mississippi State standout) Pete Young type of player. He could play a position and also be a pitcher at the college level."
Pope struck out 18 in eight innings, including 12 of the his last 13 batters, without allowing a walk in a 6-4 loss in 12 innings to No. 13 Pascagoula last week at Petal. Terry is ranked No. 8.
"Van was consistently throwing 88 (mph) at Petal," Gibson said. "He has a great slider and devastating changeup. Van has great location."
