Biography:
Kris Medlen was drafted in the 10th round of the 2006 draft out of Santa Ana JUCO in California. He was mainly a shortstop there, and some teams even wanted him as a switch-hitting infielder. But the Braves were more impressed with his work coming out of the bullpen with the lead in the ninth inning. They saw something special, and decided to take a chance on him as a pitcher. His first pro season was remarkable. Medlen was almost perfect in the Appalachian League, allowing just one earned run in his 20 games. He's not a very big guy, but he has good deception in his delivery and good movement on his pitches. Medlen will probably start the season in Rome in 2007, but if he pitches anything like he did last season you can expect him to finish the season in the Carolina League.
