Biography:
The Braves signed Kawakami in January from Japan after he spent 11 seasons with the Chunichi Dragons. He was 112-72 with a 3.22 ERA in his Japanese career. Kawakami has a fastball in the 88-91 mph range, a good slow curveball, a solid cutter, and a split-fingered fastball. The Braves expect Kawakami to be the third or fourth starter in 2009.
