This discussion should be one of those 4 hour forums on MLB Network.
Im just not sure Fredi is enough of a leader nor am I convinced that he has the baseball mentality to win. Same kinda manager as Yost IMO. Just not enough fire. His lineup construction is lacking as well IMO.
Wren seems to have trouble with the high dollar acquisitions. I dont know if there is really any fault since Im not in the budgeting process. I do think Santana was a reach but who knows after the spring training spate of injuries. Question the BJ signing when it happened but I know some will say hindsight. I wondered why Heyward wasnt given a shot in CF.
Were there not signs from AZ that JUp would/could be a distraction?
I wonder why Gattis is not played in LF in some of the small parks like Philly and Boston with Cincy and Pitt to come.
Dont really understand the bench either unless it was simply the result of short money.
RE: Fredi: Does Bobby Cox have much input to the FO?
RE: Wren. Does John Hart have a future role with Atlanta?
Well, a couple of years ago when the payroll was around 80 million and Chipper and Huddy occupied quite a bit of that I'd have said a resounding 'no'. But now? The pitching moves Mr. Wren has made have been good ones, by and large.
But Uggla and BJ have really, really, REALLY crippled this team with their lack of performance. Gattis being hurt hasn't helped. The lack of power makes a Braves home run something to really stand up and notice. Overall? Maybe the middle of a losing streak isn't the time to comment, but based on what the immediate future holds both this year and most likely next? I'd say Mr. Wren's seat is pretty damn hot right now. That is if anyone actually cares about winning.
Fredi and Wren just signed contract extentions; If the contracts are longer than one year each I think we are stuck with them. That's the hang up, no one seems to know the length of the deals. I don't think Fredi's a bad manager, he's just not the guy for this team and I've never been enamored of Wrens' GM skills and I think both need to go....along with 1/3 of this team
Just to refresh some memories: Last year while in a dead heat for home field advantage in the playoffs, Fredi in all his wisdom, chose to start Kameron Loe in a crucial game. Remember how that turned out and the consequences thereof?
I don'tn think either will. Both probably should. I wish FG would go out and get thrown out and try to lite a fire, his mentor sure did. I don't understand FW. Lowe, Kawakami,Uggla, B.J., What is he doing? And who is advising him. And WHY did they replace Brian Snitker with Doug Decenso? It's getting scary at all the bad decisions
All trades and contracts must be approved by Chairman and CEO: Terry McGuirk; President: John Schuerholz before Frank Wren can make a trade. Wren works for those two and they control the money and establish the budget.
I don't know I was hopeful not only to make the playoffs but a run in the playoffs. I really don't believe we have the pitching to do that this year. If we draw L A in the first round don't think it will be a different result from last year.
