The Braves finish the road trip 6-4 after the win over the Mets.
Minor helps Braves sweep Athletics
Minor pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on four hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts. He gave up two solo home runs to Nate Freiman.
After taking 11 days off in between starts, Minor has now pitched two solid games. He has allowed five earned runs on 12 hits in 13.2 innings in his two starts back. Minor lost to the Dodgers last Tuesday but he pitched well.
The Braves are now 64-60 after the three-game sweep of Oakland. They are still six games back of the Nationals, who have now won six in a row after sweeping Pittsburgh over the weekend.
The next series for the Braves will be in Pittsburgh. Both teams have the identical 64-60 record and are 1.5 games back of the Giants for the second wildcard spot. The Marlins are two games back of the Braves and Pirates, while the Reds are 2.5 games back.
The Braves got great starting pitching over the weekend. Alex Wood, Julio Teheran and Minor combined for a 2.57 ERA in the three games against Oakland. They allowed six runs on 12 hits in 21 innings.
Ervin Santana will pitch for Atlanta in game one of the series against Pittsburgh. The Pirates will have Vance Worley on the mound in game one. Aaron Harang pitches against lefty Francisco Liriano in game two on Tuesday, while Wood pitches against Gerrit Cole in the series finale Wednesday night.
